In The Puritan Dilemma we find Edmund S. Morgan’s perspectives on what Puritanism is and how John Winthrop managed the issue of being a puritan. Morgan portrays that â€Å"Puritanism necessitated that a man dedicate his life to looking for salvation however revealed to him he was vulnerable to do anything besides shrewd. Strictness necessitated that he rest his entire expectation in Christ yet instructed him that Christ would absolutely dismiss him except if before he was conceived God had destined his salvation. Rigidity necessitated that man cease from transgression yet revealed to him he would sin in any case. Rigidity necessitated that he change the world in he picture of God’s sacred realm however instructed him that shrewdness of the world was serious and unavoidable. John Winthrop got the fever of Puritanism at school and for him the difficulty of living on the planet without taking his psyche off God was the hardest for him. Winthrop would have much rather been a priest or loner, yet that was not allowed Puritans should live on the planet not departing it. In Winthrop’s life he faces numerous dilemma’s which all have to do with the issue of living on the planet without departing it. The major dilemma’s are if Winthrop should leave England to go to the New World with the Massachusetts Bay Company and the issue of dissidence and difference in Massachusetts.
